Research shows that CBD benefits include acting as an anti-inflammatory, anticonvulsant, antioxidant, antiemetic, anxiolytic and antipsychotic agent, which is why it can help in an array of ailments. Don’t just take it from us; take it from the many research studies that have shown how CBD is aiding in multiple conditions. Here we present to you what we have learned about the benefits of CBD based on research.

Anxiety

The distress, worry and fear that comes with anxiety disorders are constant and overwhelming, and can be disabling. Anxiety Disorders can keep you from carrying on with your life normally.

CBD has shown to have anxiolytic properties, which are highly beneficial for treating stress and anxiety. One study in particular, in which ten people with social anxiety participated in, showed improvement in symptoms compared to the placebo. The participants were given either a placebo or 400mg of CBD. The successful improvement was due to CBD affecting a part of the brain that engages our fight-or-flight response in the amygdala. Taking CBD can make that region of your brain less excitable. This means that the CBD oil can dampen your response to stress and anxiety.

Clinical trials suggest that high-dose CBD may be useful for the treatment of social anxiety disorder. At high concentrations, CBD directly activates serotonin receptors, providing an anti-anxiety effect. This receptor is involved in a wide range of biological and neurological processes, including anxiety, addiction, appetite, sleep, pain perception, nausea and vomiting.

Overall, current evidence indicates CBD has considerable potential as a treatment for multiple anxiety disorders.

Insomnia

CBD has the ability to reduce anxiety, which can be helpful in improving insomnia, according to research. Insomnia is a common sleep disorder that can make it hard to sleep, or cause you an abnormal sleeping pattern, greatly affecting overall health and quality of life.

In small doses, CBD can effectively treat insomnia, ensuring a rest without the alarming side effects of conventional drugs that are commonly used to treat insomnia. The National Institutes of Health found that sleeping pills only add 11 minutes of sleep time and shorten the time to fall asleep by 13 minutes. In addition, they can also have serious side effects.

CBD may treat ailments without the side effects that synthetic drugs can cause. However, just like with any other medication, it is a learning process in finding the appropriate dose to get the desired result. It is important to understand the influence on the endocannabinoid system and improving its ability to maintain homeostasis. In efforts to maintain balance in our bodies, homeostasis helps us maintain a constant internal environment. Therefore, depending on the dosage administered, CBD allows you to be alert when you need to be awake, and induces rest when you need to sleep.

Studies have shown that CBD influences the dopamine levels in the bloodstream during sleep, inducing relaxation and experiencing a higher quality of sleep. CBD also increases anandamide levels in the brain. Anandamide is responsible for regulating levels of other chemicals found in the brain, including, regulating levels of serotonin and dopamine. By increasing anandamide levels, CBD regulates other important neurotransmitters that can lead to improved sleeping pattern.

CBD has also been shown to reduce insomnia in people who suffer from chronic pain.

Pain/Inflammation

CB2 receptors are found throughout the body and brain, and are responsible for controlling important cellular functions, including managing pain by acting on the CB2 receptor. This reduces the number of inflammatory molecules that occur at sites of inflammation, enabling CBD to block pain signals from being sent to the brain.

CBD directly interacts with various ion channels creating a therapeutic effect. TRPV1, also referred to as vanilloid receptors, is known to mediate pain perception, inflammation and body temperature. CBD binds to vanilloid receptors, which can influence pain receptors. Scientists from the National Institutes of Health, showed that cannabinoids can suppress inflammatory and neuropathic pain without causing analgesic tolerance.

Since CBD avoids being metabolized by the body, it has been found that CBD is best absorbed into the blood when it was applied as an ointment. study on topical application to treat pain in arthritis showed reduction in both joint inflammation and spontaneous pain.  In a different study, evidence also showed CBD acting on skin inflammation in psoriatic arthritis. This research proved that CBD deploys a strong anti-acne action by slowing down the abnormal lipidic production under the skin, by suppressing cell proliferation, and by preventing the “pro-acne” agents to elevate cytokine levels, thus causing inflammation.

Furthermore, there is clear scientific evidence that CBD can be helpful in decreasing the impact of inflammation on oxidative stress, which contribute to a number of diseases.
